Fingerprint scanner SDK for Android
Suprema, Inc.
is releasing a finger-
print scanner software develop-
ment kit (SDK) for the Android
operating system (OS).
The new SDK is specially de-
signed for use with Suprema's latest
fingerprint scanner, the Biomini
Slim. It assures the same powerful
performance as the test-proven
SDK for desktop computers. For
instance, like the SDK for desktop
computers, the SDK for Android
also enables mobile devices to
capture fingerprints under harsh
environmental conditions as well
as direct sunlight of up to 100,000
LUX.
With a high speed of 15fps
(Frames Per Second), the new
SDK supports a live preview in the
verification process, designed to
make the Biomini Slim apply to an
even wider range of applications.
Suprema believes it is the first
developer to provide a live preview
function on mobile devices in the
ID solutions market.
Alongside the launch of the
new SDK, Suprema has also
revealed a free of charge mobile
Android app for product demon-
strations for Biomini Slim users.
The app provides a rich and intui-
tive user experience in Suprema ID
solutions, including product and
technology information, as well as
the product
demo. Any-
one using
an Android
device can
download
the app at
the Google
Play Store.
"As is the
case with
other applications, tablets and
smartphones are replacing desktops
or notebooks as a platform to col-
lect and verify biometric identity.
In the near future, we expect to see
even more integration of biomet-
rics and mobility." Said Young S.
Moon, Vice President of Suprema
Inc. "Suprema expects the new
SDK for Android will offer strong
support in growing the biometrics
and ID solutions markets."
Biomini Slim maintains the
highest standards by receiving
both FBI-PIV and mobile ID FAP
20 certifications. It has a rugged
IP65 rated dust and waterproof
form factor while maintaining a
sleek ergonomic design, and is
equipped with Suprema's latest
500dpi slim optical sensor and
large platen for easy and reliable
fingerprinting, as well as Supre-
ma's LFD (live finger detection)
technology.
Vivotek launches new box cameras
Vivotek
has launched two new
professional box network cameras
the IP8155HP and IP8165HP
offering 60 fps at 1.3 megapixel
resolution and 60 fps at 2 meg-
apixel resolution respectively,
delivering superb image quality.
Both cameras are designed with
WDR technology. The IP8165HP
delivers WDR Pro, while the
IP8155HP is equipped with the
even more advanced WDR Pro II,
which provides extreme visibility
under high contrast environments
with a 4-shutter capture method.
Combined with 3D noise reduc-
tion technology, IP8155HP and
IP8165HP are able to capture
clear, polished video under
low-light conditions and reduce
bandwidth from sensor noise.
In order to control the iris with
extreme precision, both cameras
are designed with a P-iris lens with
its built-in stepper motor. Through
close integration with the camera
firmware, the lens is able to keep
the iris opening at an optimal level
at all times.
More uniquely, in order to help
installers to adjust the focus of
these cameras more easily, the RBF
(remote back focus) system has
been introduced on both cameras,
ensuring precise focus adjustment.
In addition, incorporating the EIS
(electronic image stabilisation)
function allows the image to be free
of turbulence whenever physical
shaking of the camera is detected.
Steve Ma, Executive VP at Vi-
votek, stated, "In response to the
strong market demand for cameras
with high visibility under any
kind of conditions, we are keeping
our commitment to the develop-
ment of WDR series cameras in
different form factors. Right after
the launch of a series of dome
and bullet type network cameras
earlier this year, now we have
our box type network cameras
with advanced WDR technology,
meeting our customers' diversified
demands."

Axis' first 4K camera in compact bullet-design
The Axis P1428-E Network cam-
era is the top-of-the-line model in
the compact Axis P14 Series. With
4K technology, it offers the latest
generation of HDTV standards
and features a resolution four
times higher than HDTV 1080p.
The new Axis P1428-E is designed
for overlooking large areas like
parking lots and public squares,
while also being able to capture
fine details.
Axis Communications are
launching their first 4K resolution
camera, Axis P1428-E. The 4K
standard is defined and approved
by the International Telecom-
munication Union (ITU) and
offers a video resolution of 3840
x 2160 pixels at 30 frames per
second. The Axis P1428-E net-
work camera is the top-of-the-line
model in the compact Axis P14
Series, designed for outdoor and
demanding indoor environments.
The Axis P14 Series consists of
seven network camera models
ranging from HDTV 1080p to
4K allowing customers to select
the camera that best meets their
specific requirements and budget,
offering efficient and reliable video
surveillance in any environment.
The new Axis P1428-E offers a
number of value adding features
such as remote zoom and focus, a
built-in slot for micro SD/SDHC/
SDXC memory cards and I/O
connectors for interfacing with
external devices.
"An important factor in the
development of this first Axis
4K camera was to bring the new
industry standard into a product
series intended to be implemented
into practical use from day one.
Initially, it is likely that most
customers will be using a standard
HDTV monitor. 4K makes it
possible to enhance any portion of
the screen without losing details.
To manage bandwidth consump-
tion, users can view the live video
stream in HD 1080p and take ad-
vantage of 4K recordings for foren-
sic purposes", says Erik Frännlid,
Director of Product Management,
Axis Communications.
