Future issues
This year, one of the focal points
at Essen will be concentrated on
future issues. The new Research
Area is showing industry innova-
tions from the development sec-
tor: research-oriented companies
and institutes will be presenting
themselves for the first time over
500 square metres in hall 8. At the
same time, the European Com-
mission is organising the Security
Research Event entitled "Security
Research meets Industry: Growth,
Technology, Markets". Over two
days, experts will be providing
information on the latest strategies
of this branch of industry, for
example on the issue of border
security. The congress focuses on
the link between industry and
science and also looks at differ-
ent programmes in Europe. The
Security Research Event therefore
offers a platform for knowledge
transfer and communications
among experts at European level.
Three forums
Three forums will offer the trade
visitors the possibility of obtaining
information about topical subjects
in the sector. In Hall 6 (the Secu-
rity Forum), there will be lectures
ranging from security manage-
ment to video surveillance. IT
security will also play a great role
here. Experts will indicate solution
paths to the interested trade visi-
tors in a generally comprehensible
and practice-oriented form. The
forum in Hall 8 will concentrate
on subjects from research and
development. Public security will
be the focus of attention during
the forum about the official figures
in Hall 9.
As part of the trade fair, the
most innovative companies will be
awarded the "Security Innovation
Award" in different categories. An
independent specialist panel will
assess the submissions in terms of
innovative content, user benefits,
cost-effectiveness and reliability. n
In 2010, Security Es-
sen attracted 40,850
visitors. According to the
organiser, substantially more
visitors travelled to Essen from
abroad than in previous years
and almost half of the exhibi-
tors were non-German. In 2010,
they came from 113 countries.
There were some 1,078 exhibitors
and the foreign proportion was
46 percent which was a new
record. Exhibitors came from 38
different countries
Since then, the economy in
southern Europe has been very
weak, but the German economy
remains stronger than most.
Essen should be well placed to
continue to grow, or at least to
not lose visitors. The organiser is
expecting about 1,100 exhibitors
from 40 countries.
Fire protection
will occupy more space
This year, video surveillance
systems, access control systems,
intruder alarms and integrated
security are some of the product
categories that will be displayed.
In the dedicated fire protection
hall the complete spectrum of
structural, industrial and mobile
fire protection equipment will
be presented. Demonstrations
of fire protection measures for
buildings, to alarm technol-
ogy, to active fire extinguishing
technology will show how a fire
can be prevented from becoming
a catastrophe. The fire protection
hall will be made a reality by
Security Essen together with its
partner, the Federal Association
for Fire Protection Technology.
The topic of fire protection will
be a particular focus on 27 Sep-
tember. On this specially themed
day, exhibitors in the halls and
the open-air exhibition ground 1
will have the opportunity to in-
form visitors about preventative
fire protection and fire-fighting
during live presentations.
