is owned and marketed by a
Taiwanese integrator, which Vi-
votek owns to a great extent. The
simplicity of the system when it
comes to displaying the different
services which are offered to the
customer is a brilliant example
of how Security-as-a-Service can
function when aimed at smaller
companies.
worth a visit
All in all Secutech gave a more
compact impression than on pre-
vious occasions. The show also
had fewer exhibitors compared
to last year. But the intensity was
there and the visitor flow was
much better when compared
to many European shows. The
compact layout also made it
easier to get an overview of the
show. Secutech is absolutely
worth a visit, especially for com-
panies that import electronic
security products, mainly within
CCTV.
Annual show
Secutech Taiwan is arranged
every year. Next time it will be
once again in Taipei, 19th-21st
of March 2014 at the Taipei
Nangang Exhibtion Center. n
Awards
Like many other exhibitions
awards were handed out to the
companies with the best new
product introductions. Invited
visitors also had the opportunity
to vote for different IP camera
and NVR products that had
been nominated for the Secutech
award. Prize winning IP-cameras
belonged to Dahua, Sony and
Panasonic. Vivotek, Everfocus and
Lilia were also awarded for their
products. In the NVR category
NUUO, Qnap and Synology were
awarded best products.
Trends and products
Talking about trends there
appeared to be nothing new com-
pared to the previous year. Camer-
as and storage devices dominated
and IP and HD ruled. There were
also a fair number of panoramic
fisheye cameras, for example from
Panasonic and Vivotek.
A more general trend was that
more and more product are being
designed to make installation and
use easier and less time consum-
ing. Several cloud solutions were
also interesting, and Vivotek
was on the front line here. They
showed a smart concept that
president of Dahua, emphasises
however that they chose to exhibit
at Secutech mainly to mingle with
old and new customers from all
over the world. "We have had
visitors to our stand from Austria,
Israel, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore,
Turkey and UAE," he said.
Less important
In Europe and North America
Secutech has lost some of its
importance since Taiwanese and
other Asian companies have now
become more frequent exhibitors
at western shows. That was notice-
able on the geographical visitor
demography. According to Parson
Lee, CEO for Messe Frankfurt
New Era Business, the foreign
visitor figures were dominated
by people from Japan, China,
Malaysia, Korea, Singapore, USA,
Thailand, Hong Kong, Philippines
and Indonesia.
Secutech is a three day
event in two halls one
for security and fire protection
and one for IT security. The show
also offers a grand conference and
seminar programme. For western
visitors it is mainly the exhibition
and companies marketing cameras
that draw the attention, and that
also happens to be in the main,
what Taiwanese security technol-
ogy is known for.
In recent years though, the Tai-
wanese manufacturers have been
put under pressure by competition
from the Chinese, something that
was very clear at Secutech. The
two Chinese heavyweight com-
panies Hikvision and Zhejiang
Dahua Technology (Dahua) were
for example present at the show.
They obviously plan to compete
with the Taiwanese companies on
their home ground, and the fact is
that they can. Michael Chen, vice

The big Chinese camera manufacturers

where Phoebe Li and Finn Wu could be
found, was one of the most visited.

nese company Dahua displayed a wide
mix of products within CCTV.
