Stratocast.
· Genetec held its European
launch for Stratocast, a new
cloud-based video surveillance
system, at Ifsec. With pack-
ages starting below $10 USD a
month per camera, Stratocast is
an affordable, yet powerful Video
Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS)
solution. It is designed to meet
the needs of small and midsized
businesses, such as quick service
restaurants, retail shops, office
an even richer business experience
for exhibitors, visitor groups and
delegates, with both the UK and
global security markets further
benefitting from the move to Lon-
don. These provide real business
leads and development opportuni-
ties, essentially helping all sectors
in the security and fire industries
build their business. We all recog-
nise the importance of integrating
with one another and Ifsec is the
best place for this to happen."
Detektor had a closer look at
some of the products that were
shown during the exhibition. Here
is a selection of them:
Video surveillance
· Focuseasy from Brickcom is
an innovative technology which
makes focusing a camera easier,
faster and without any assisting
equipment. During the focusing
operation, the status of the focus
is informed to the installer via a
buzzer. The more the image is out
of focus, the longer the intervals
between successive beeps. As the
image draws closer to the correct
focus, the beeps increase in speed.
Once the image is focused, the
buzzer makes a long beep for 3
seconds as notification.
Milestone Arcus.
· Milestone Arcus is a video
surveillance platform designed to
be embedded in hardware devices,
enabling technology partners to
deliver customised, co-branded,
market-ready surveillance solu-
tions. Milestone Arcus runs on
Linux, Mac OSX and Windows
related operating systems, within
network storage and cameras or
other devices on the edge. Arcus
automatically rolls out updates. In
Analogue is dead
Ifsec also confirmed that the shift
from analogue to digital technol-
ogy was being made some time
ago. The big suppliers of analogue
cameras Pelco by Schneider and
Samsung were entirely devoted
to IP cameras this time. Also, the
real customer benefits of IP tech-
nology has really become evident
through smart cloud solutions that
can generate technology based ser-
vices making it possible for users
to avoid heavy security invest-
ments and dedicated personnel to
take care of the security technol-
ogy and the huge data streams
that are generated. Instead, most
of it can be handled in the cloud
and the customers can pay for the
services on a monthly basis.
Access control trends
Another trend that was interesting
was in the access control arena.
At Ifsec, several CCTV manufac-
turers presented different types
of solutions for access control.
Samsung showed face recognition
and Genetec was even awarded
at the show for its IP based ac-
cess control solution. One can
certainly believe that this is a trend
that will continue. The specialist
access control companies will face
hard competition in the future.
Future for Ifsec
Ifsec International visitors are
excited for what the future holds,
Paul Hammonds, Telecommuni-
cations Engineer, Mottmacdonald,
said: "Ifsec is a very important
event and it's great to see what's
new out there with security. Ifsec
is definitely still a priority for us
and there will always be members
of the team attending the event to
gauge what's new".
Commenting on the move to
London, Charlie Cracknell said:
