system is 100% stable and reliable
by adding a redundant power sup-
ply, RAID and N+M hot standby
in this case.
"As a saying goes, when need
is highest, help is highest, "said
Lourenco Rui, Technical Manager
of Thales Group, a local system
integrator. "We are very satisfied
with Dahua's prompt response
and its good product quality and
professionalism that helped us to
successfully complete this urgent
project and all the associated inte-
gration work in such a short time,
ensuring the smooth implementa-
tion of the project."
One month
to settle the project
Xuan emphasised, "Compati -
bility is always one focus we've
been paying attention to, and
this case is a good proof of that
point. The whole project only
took one month before every-
thing was settled." n
Moreover, the NVR is
equipped with an LCD screen,
making adjustments and main-
tenance much easier. The most
important part in this case is
the integration with third party
encoders and VMS software, thus
a lot of effort, such as SDK and
sample were provided as well as
extensive testing to make certain
everything was right, and ensur-
ing that the integration went
smoothly.
"Three highs"
It could be said that the pet-
rochemical related industry is
characterised by the "three highs"
high investment, high-tech and
high risk. Any error or miscarriage
will lead to a disaster, causing
great losses potentially in lives
and property, and video footage is
crucial for evidence in such cases.
This requires very high system sta-
bility, so Dahua included a degree
of customisation to ensure that the
settled. I soon realised that this
could be a good opportunity for
us, though we did face a serious
challenge the tight time frame
for one," explained Peter Xuan,
Overseas Project Manager at Da-
hua Technology. "As the project
needed to be implemented quite
quickly, time was of the essence.
So after receiving the detailed
requirements from the client,
we soon narrowed the decision
down to the NVR724-256DR,
a 256-channel super network
recorder."
Large volume of data
The NVR724-256DR supports
256ch at 1080p real-time record-
ing and has an impressive 512
Mbps incoming capability. This
means that the device is fully
capable of ensuring a smooth
operation, and since large storage
is a necessity for big scale and
crucial applications, the plant
needs 24/7 non-stop monitoring,
which inevitably generates a large
volume of data. So iSCSI and a
Mini SAS expansion is provided
to allow for the possibility of
mass extra storage, in addition
to the default 24-HDD accom-
modation.
"Oil and gas" are definitely
among the top subjects that
come to mind when talking
about Saudi Arabia, particularly
as this country owns one-fifth
of the total global conventional
oil reserves, and is ranked the
second largest in the world, after
Venezuela. With these unsur-
passed natural resources, Saudi
Arabia has made the petrochemi-
cal sector its pillar industry with
a complete and mature system
from exploration, exploitation to
transportation as well as includ-
ing extensions to the whole wider
industry chain.
Tight time frame
According to the integrator,
Kemya's existing surveillance
structure is based on analogue, but
to acquire easy maintenance and
management, the client plans to
upgrade the system to network by
introducing encoders as a transit
station on the basis of the existing
analogue cameras, and using a
network video recorder for storage
with a VMS platform for compre-
hensive system management.

us, the most part of the project
had almost everything already

The Al-Jubail petrochemical company (Kemya), es-
tablished in 1979, is one of the largest petrochemical
corporate in the Saudi Arabia; and over the years, the
company keeps investing in expansion and innova-
tion, aiming to create a more productive yet safer
and greener working environment; and the recent
upgrade of the video surveillance system using
dahua technology is part of this plan.
"Oil and gas" are definitely among the top subjects that come to mind when talking
