Apps
Another strong trend was sim-
plicity and ease of use. A good
example of this is the Axis Camera
Companion, a system that is
simple to install and where the
end user can access video images
via their smartphone or tablet.
Simplicity and ease of use also
applies to access control systems
and solutions based on NFC are
becoming more common.
Many companies displayed
new apps, for example Milestone,
whose app allows users to stream
video from their smartphone or
tablet to the central VMS system.
The next Skydd show will be
held in 2014 and will be over
three days rather than four.
"In total, the fair had
13,906 visitors, which is
very satisfying given the current
economic situation," says Magnus
Eriksson, Project Manager for
Skydd and Nordic Safety Expo, an
exhibition of personal protective
equipment which was held in
parallel with Skydd.
Fewer than before
Overall, there were about 500 less
visitors than the previous Skydd
show in 2010 and more than
3,500 less than in 2008.
"I have received many com-
ments. Many exhibitors felt that
the quality of the visitors was
good. Some of them had reached
their business goals after just two
days," says Magnus Eriksson.
Some 40 seminars and activi-
ties were organised during the fair.
There were also several panel
discussions, for example on how
In 2010, some 23,000
visitors came to Paris
for Expoprotection. About 100
presentations were given by 200
speakers and the Risk Manage-
ment Forum reached an audience
of nearly 5,000 people. 750 ex-
hibitor companies presented their
latest technological advances with
a total of 350 innovations.
Health and safety
This year, Expoprotection is being
reorganised around two distinct
central points of focus: health and
safety. On display in hall 7.2 will
be Health Environment Space
prevention and protection against
society should work together in an
effective way to solve an upcoming
emergency situation or a terrorist
attack.
Trends
Security cameras and other
products for video surveillance,
access control, intruder alarms,
fire alarms and integrated sys-
tems were some of the product
categories that were showcased at
this year's Skydd. In recent years,
video surveillance has been the
most rapidly developing sector
within the security industry, and
these days HD is almost taken for
granted. Several manufacturers are
now focusing on image quality
rather than simply increasing the
number of megapixels. Sony is one
such company and at the Skydd
show, the company displayed its
new cameras with greatly im-
proved wide dynamic range.
professional and environmental
risks, health and well being at
work. In Hall 7.3 there will be a
focus on safety and prevention and
protection against malicious intent
and fire, safety and security for
people, goods and information.
Video surveillance products,
intruder alarms, fire alarms, access
control and integrated systems will
be some of the product categories
that will be on display in Paris.
Expoprotection is also creating
"themed villages" in order to help
the show's participants better
understand the new challenges
associated with the prevention
and management of risks, to
identify their needs and to provide
enhanced content. These new vil-
lages are being developed around
emerging or critical themes such
as counter-terrorism, data theft,
noise, road safety, training, passive
fire protection etc.
Seminars
With 120 lectures and work-
shops, Expoprotection will offer
a programme designed to deliver
the information needed when
considering and finalising risk
management projects.
Expoprotection will also be
staging a Meetings Space in order
to increase the opportunities for
discussions.
Awards
At the Expoprotection Awards,
the most innovative products will
receive recognition. The competi-
tion jury, comprised of experts,
journalists, users and opinion
leaders, will award three trophies
for each category.
Visitor numbers decreased
The Expoprotection visitor
numbers decreased from 24,985 in
2008 to 23,000 in 2010. This year,
it will be interesting to see if there
will be an upswing in visitor num-
bers or if the decline will continue.
